Former Firestone Plant Property Taxes Paid

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Trustee Regina Morrison Newman announces that all Shelby County and City of Memphis property taxes on the main parcel of the former Firestone Plant property were paid yesterday in the amount of $157,086.

As many residents are aware, after Firestone Tire left the New Chicago site in the early 1980s the property was purchased by the Mid-South Junior Golf Association, with the intent to use the property as a youth golf training facility.  The not-for-profit was unable to build the facility nor pay the taxes so the property has been in danger of tax sale by Shelby County.  Mid-South Junior Golf Association had the property on the market for some time.  A private corporation has now satisfied the tax bill which will stop the risk of a tax sale for the foreseeable future.

Trustee Newman states, “The Trustee’s Office is pleased to have been able to collect the full tax amount for the benefit of the County and the City.”
